Six Unique Ways to Stimulate the Clitoris

Did you know that a 3D model of the clitoris didn’t exist until 2009? This organ has been historically understudied, both in science and likely in our personal lives. (This goes for penis owners and vulva owners.) For many vulva owners, clitoral stimulation is usually also the easiest and fastest way to reach orgasm – solo or with a partner.

Based on how undiscovered this organ is, it’s possible that many vulva owners haven’t gotten to know their own clitoris, aside from a couple of go-to techniques.

This article will provide a few new ways to stimulate the clitoris if you – or your partner – is looking to get creative.

Pro tip: Don’t give up on one particular form of stimulation too quickly (unless it doesn’t feel good, of course) since the sensation may intensify after a while.

All About the Clit

The clit is packed with thousands of nerve endings and is by far the most sensitive part of the vulva.

When many folks think of the clitoris, they might think of the clitoral tip, which is pea-sized. However, the clitoris is actually a larger internal organ. The full clitoris is shaped like a wishbone, with the glans at the top and two internal “legs” that stretch up to five inches downward around your labia and vaginal opening.

The clitoris is located at the point when the inner labia meet. You may not be able to see the clitoris tip right away, as it’s often covered by a clitoral hood, a small flap of skin that can be gently retracted. If you can’t see the clitoris, push the hood gently upward, which should reveal the clitoris tip. The clitoral tip is extremely sensitive, make sure to start with indirect or very light stimulation. You can stroke the clitoris over the labia without pulling back the hood, or by using a barrier like underwear, or a blanket.

Trick 1: “2 Thumbs Up (Then Down)”
Best for: Partner Play

Step 1: add lube to your fingers! Then move the thumbs up and down your partner’s labia while moving the tongue up and down the middle of the vulva. Try timing it so your tongue moves down as your thumbs move up.

Trick 2: “Under Pressure”
Best for: Solo or Partner Play

Try different kinds of pressure: like squeezing the clit, gently gripping the skin on either between your thumb and pointer finger. Once you’ve established what degree of pressure feels good for you, try manipulating the skin by moving your hand up and down—like a tiny hand job for your clitoris.

Trick 3: “Helping Hand”
Best for: Solo or Partner Play

Position your hand so that your palm is on top of the pubic mound, with all five fingers over the vulva. Rub the whole hand up and down or back and forth while trying a variation of speeds and pressure.Don’t stop ‘til you find the groove that feels good to you.

Trick 4: “I Come in Peace”
Best for: Solo or Partner Play

Step 1: add lube to your fingers! Then make a peace sign with your fingers, and  slide them up and down on the inside of the receiving partner’s outer lips, and around the inner lips. This delivers stimulation to the extended “wishbone” shape of the clitoris. (This is erectile tissue that is super sensitive when it becomes engorged, which results in throbbing, pulsing, and warmth.

Trick 5: “Lick & Blow”
Best for: Solo or Partner Play

‘‘Drumming’’ fingers on the genitals may be extremely pleasurable. Try making stroking motions with the fingers or tongue, concentrating on the opening between the labia, slowly making way to the clitoris. If you’re with a partner, have them blow on the clitoris while pressing two fingers on the inner or outer labia .

Trick 6: “Human Vibrator”
Best for: Partner Play

Vibration is also possible…with no vibrator required! Your partner holds their mouth against the clitoris and ‘‘hums’’. Add gentle suction on the clitoris or inner labia while humming for an out-of-this-world sensation.

Of course, if any of these feel uncomfortable or just don’t hit the right spot, your body is probably telling you that you should wait, refrain or try a different technique.

But – if your body is telling you that it feels good, keep going!
